Weimaraner & the mischievous “weim” crimes

November 28, 2020

Weimaraner & the Mischievous “weim” Crimes is about a puppy going on a crime spree. The Weimaraners are known for their “weim-crimes”, and Casper definitely got the memo for this from the start.

To get you up to speed, we picked up our Casper on Leap Day 2020, 2 weeks before the Pandemic shut the world down. He was the cutest little thing at eleven weeks old, and he came trained: basic obedience, potty & crate trained, and what more can you ask for?

Weimaraner

He arrived as an innocent-looking puppy but you know how looks can be so deceiving. It was definitely a good thing he was not our first Weimaraner, and at this point, we were so ready for our puppy boy, or so we thought…

Weimaraner Weim Crime #1

Crime: Destroying leashes and harnesses.

The crime spree started already the first week. Akk of a suddden he would jump up to grab the leash, and then run away. We had chosen a bungee leash, and before we knew it, the threads were shredding & the leash was falling apart. The verdict was Casper 1 – Leash 0

The mischievous crimes of the amazing Weimaraptor

Weim Crime #2

Crime: Stealing shoes.

This mischievous puppy started his crime spree very young, and we still have to make sure he has no access to our closets. He has the longest front paws, and when we watch TV, I tend to put my flip-flops under the sofa, and believe it or not, he would lie down, put his front paws under the coach, and pull them out. Luckily so far he has yet to destroy them.

He would run and grab our sneakers, even though they were almost bigger than him. The chase would start, and this puppy was fast, very fast.

Weimaraner Weim Crime #3

Crime: Putting everything in sight in his mouth.

Just like a little human toddler, our weim boy would try to put almost everything in his mouth. I cannot tell you how often I would find my hand halfway down his throat as I had to pull something out, and the list of what he would do is endless:

  • Putting lava rocks from palm trees in his mouth
  • Eating fern growing on palm trees
  • Removing & eating moss growing on the stone retaining wall.
  • Grabbing mulch, sticks, pebbles, paper, and anything plastic during walks and he is very fast!
  • Stealing paper napkins off the table, kitchen island, or even out of your hand.
  • Jumping up grabbing the fabric towel as you are drying dishes
  • Scanning the house for any papers: Bills, lottery tickets, receipts…

Casper is very curious and needs to examine everything. He is being watched all the time, and we try to avoid leaving things out. In addition, we train the commands “Leave it”, “Down” in addition to “Drop it”.

Weim Crime #4

Crime: Believing that he is a human.

It started when he was very young, as he would be watching us, and then he would try to do the same thing. We found him sitting & standing on chairs, stretching across tables to reach items, hanging on tables as well as jumping up on tables. Nothing was safe from our little Weimaraptor. Good thing he was so cute that he could get away with almost anything.

Weim Crime #5

Crime: Interfering with workouts.

If he was loose in the house when I was working out, he would run to me to steal my equipment, as well as drinking my water. He would lie down on the workout mat, climb on top of me as I was doing sit-ups, or crawl underneath me during push-ups. In addition, he was so helpful so he added extra weight to my workout routine, and I will be eternally grateful. At times I would be laughing so hard so i simply could not continue my workout, and it would turn to puppy playtime instead.

Weimaraner Weim crime #6

Crime: Growing up too much too fast.

He weighed only 12 lbs at age 11 weeks when he joined our family. At 60 pounds, he can reach almost everything. When he lays down, he even takes up the entire length of the sofa. He will steal veggies as you cut them on the kitchen counter. He can NOT be trusted yet, and at this point, who knows? We do not know if this day will ever come. He is certainly the most mischevious thing.

Weim Crime #7

Crime: Destroying at least 6 beds so far when he was left alone in his crate…

And yes, he gets plenty of exercises as we walk 5-9 miles every day around our neighborhood in addition to visiting the dog park , and we just started running. I think it is more of an emotional protest that he has to spend time in the crate alone. Early one morning, I had to go to the ER and he was left alone for a few hours. When my husband came home, the bed must have exploded as there was nothing but very small foam pieces left and you could barely see Casper.

Weim Crime #8

The biggest crime s being so cute & adorable, in addition to the ultimate crime of stealing my heart. He is turning into a cuddly Weimaraner toddler, and we love him to pieces.

To sum it all up, for those of you who are blessed and have a Weimaraner in your life, I know this will put a smile on your face. I have a feeling that you can identify with some of the crimes or all of them.

You can follow Casper’s adventure here.

Lastly, for those of you who are new to this breed, don’t let the sweet, cute face fool you & melt your heart. Weimaraners are dogs with human brains, and they need a strong human to lead their way. Once you do a lot of training, give lots of love, and set boundaries, and the boundaries are fully understood by both parties, you will share an amazing life. Especially if you are looking to get this breed, do your homework, and you can find more information here.
